How to enhance your garden with glass balustrades

By News

If you have a beautiful garden, you probably want to admire it from your patio or decking. However, you cannot do that if you have solid balustrades and handrails getting in the way of the view.

Glass balustrades offer so many benefits to people with gardens and decking. Since glass is transparent, you will have uninterrupted views from your decking. That means you will see your garden in its full glory without having any solid obstructions in the way.

But that’s not all. Glass balustrades increase the safety of your decking too. If you have young children or guests, then you never have to worry about them falling over the side of your decking ever again. The glass balustrades form a secure barrier to prevent anyone from falling over.

Clearly Glass can design customised glass balustrades for your patio or decking. The shapes and curves of your decking do not matter. All of the glass panels will be cut and sized to fit your particular decking. Then you can enjoy the convenience of looking through your glass balustrades while keeping everyone in your home safe at the same time.

When you contact us for a free consultation, we’ll survey your decking area and take measurements. That way, we can come up with an accurate price estimate for the design and installation service of your glass balustrades. Alternatively, if you are still at the design or build stage we can provide a quote from your drawings (or rough sketch!).

Once we agree on a price, we will proceed to create your custom glass balustrades and then install them on your decking.

Bespoke shower glass for lofts & attics – What to consider?

By News

Do you want to put a glass shower in your loft? If so, then you have the right idea. Glass showers in lofts are a great use of space and very practical. You don’t have to wait for someone to get out of the bathroom before you use the shower. Instead, you can just go upstairs and use your own personal shower whenever you want.

You will need bespoke shower glass to create the perfect shower in your loft. After all, these are areas of your home which have unusual shapes to them. The walls and ceilings are often slanted and irregularly shaped. Because of this, you need to have your glass doors and panels customised to fit in these places.

Don’t forget that lofts don’t usually offer a whole lot of space. You need to make the most of the existing space when you consider having a shower installed in it. The first step is to have measurements taken of every angle of the space, starting from the floor and going up to the walls and ceiling. You’ll want to know the dimensions of every side of the space in order to know how the glass should be cut.

Of course, this job is not something that your average layperson knows how to do. That is okay because Clearly Glass specialises in jobs like these. We have a team of shower glass specialists who make their living by designing and installing bespoke glass showers in unusual places like lofts. If you want to save yourself the hassle of having to do this job by yourself, then you should call the glass specialists of Clearly Glass today.

All customers get a free evaluation, consultation, and survey of the proposed project. After the loft space has been examined, we will come up with a price quote for the project. Alternatively, if you are still at the design or build stage we can provide a quote from your drawings (or rough sketch!). Contact us on 01395 488160 to get started.

Kitchen Design – Choosing Your Splashback Colour

By News

If you do a lot of cooking on the hob in your kitchen, then you need a good splashback to protect its walls. It is easy to dirty up the paint on the walls because of grease, sauce, or oil splatter. What is hard is trying to remove the food splatter from your walls. Oftentimes, the paint colour will never look the same again.

A splashback can ensure that your kitchen walls stay the same colour all the time. If you end up splattering food debris onto the glass of the splashbacks, then you can easily wipe away the splatter with a simple glass cleaner and a soft cloth. The only thing you have to decide is what colour do you want your splashback to be.

Some people prefer to select a neutral colour for their glass splashbacks, allowing them to introduce colour with other items, such as paintings, curtains or kitchen accessories. This approach allows you to alter the colour scheme later without having to replace your splashbacks. Alternatively many people have a clear design idea and decide to go bold with an accent colour to create contrast and a design wow factor. Matte finishes are also a popular choice, allowing for yet another design option, a matte finish to your splashbacks can work extremely well, especially if you already have a lot of gloss in the kitchen and are looking for a more subtle wall covering.

Once the splashback is applied, the new colour will cover the true colour of your walls. Any marks on the wall underneath will not show through the glass. There are many gorgeous splashback colours for you to choose from, such as lime, clay, black, orange, vanilla velvet, mulberry, and virtually any other colour that you want using our colour matching service. The walls underneath will stay protected the entire time, which helps preserve the value of your home as well. To see our colour options click here.

If you want to add some extra style to your splashback colour, you can have a matte finish, metallic finish, mirror finishes or a gloss finish. At Clearly Glass, we offer so many custom options for our kitchen splashbacks. Contact us today at 01395 488160 to find out more information on our kitchen splashback colour options.

How to keep your glass shower clean

By News

Frameless glass showers are popular in bathrooms because they take up less space than the traditional bathtub and shower combinations. Glass showers are also easier to clean because they don’t attract as much mould and rust the way bathtubs and shower curtains do. But what they do attract is soap scum.

Showers get dirty in the first place because of the hard water that comes out of the showerhead. Hard water contains lots of minerals like magnesium carbonates and calcium. When these minerals make contact with chalk deposits and limestone deposits, they start to become more visible.

As for glass, the minerals in the hard water seep into the pores of the glass and accumulate over time. This only happens when the hard water mixes with the soap that you use to clean yourself. The soap and hard water combination that builds up in the glass pores is called soap scum. If you don’t clean this soap scum quickly, then it’ll cause corrosion.

Here are the best ways to keep shower glass clean.

1) Add a Protective Coating

If you add a protective coating to the glass of the shower, it’ll cover up the pores of the glass and prevent soap scum from accumulating in them.

2) Vinegar and Water

Mix distilled water with white vinegar inside of a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the glass and leave it there for 5 minutes. Now rinse the glass with warm water and wipe it away clean with a dry towel. If you want to prevent glass streaks, then use newspaper to dry the glass.

3) Squeegee

A squeegee is a perfect tool to clean shower glass with. It’ll get rid of soap stains, hard water stains, and more. It won’t take much effort either because it is a wide ended tool that works quickly to remove stains from your shower glass. Try to use the squeegee right after you’ve taken a shower.

4) Cloth

It is good practise to also wipe the shower hardware (hinges/handle etc) dry with a cloth after cleaning in order to prevent water marks and limescale build-up.

Conclusion

As you can see, it doesn’t take much money or effort to keep your shower glass clean. You can purchase all the cleaning tools you need at your local retail store.

Glass staircase design – the power of simplicity

By News

There is nothing more beautiful than a glass staircase inside of a residential home or commercial building. Glass staircases offer a certain degree of elegance and sophistication that traditional wooden staircases lack greatly.

The amazing thing is that glass staircases are simplistic in their design because they mostly involve the use of hardened glass sheets and stainless steel clamps or just grooved timber. The only other materials are the optional wooden or stainless steel handrails, which are properly fitted to accommodate the glass installation.

Let’s explore the top 5 benefits of a glass staircase design.

1) Simplicity

Sometimes less is more when it comes to interior décor. The glass staircase design is a seamless staircase that offers a simple and easy feel. Some staircases made of mostly wood are too extravagant and over the top. By having a simple glass staircase, it helps emphasize the surrounding décor in your home.

2) Less Maintenance

With simplicity also comes less maintenance. Glass staircases are strong, easy to clean, and will not deteriorate quickly. There is also a lot less painting or varnishing required.

3) Transformation

Replacing your existing wood staircase for glass is a fast and cost effective way to completely transform the look and feel of your staircase and landing, giving a traditional or dated property a modern twist and transforming your home.

4) Vibrant

When the sunlight shines through the windows during the day, your glass staircase will become a vibrant feature in the middle of your home. It’ll breath life into enclosed spaces and make your whole indoor environment shine. You’ll never experience the dark or gloomy feeling that a wooden staircase provides.

5) Multiple Styles and Textures

You don’t just have one option for your glass staircase. The glass can be secured using clamps or grooves in the new handrails, you can have your glass staircase sandblasted, frosted, or tinted with various styles in order to give it a unique appearance. Choose whatever glass aesthetics go well with the colours of your walls and the size of your room.

Transform your kitchen with a glass splashback

By News

Glass splashbacks can transform your kitchen into a work of creative art. Traditionally, glass splashbacks have been used to protect the walls of the kitchen from any unintentional splashing from food that is cooked on the stove. Splashbacks can prevent stains and deterioration of the paint job on your walls. Not only that, but it is much easier to clean food messes away from glass than from a painted wall.

However, wall protection is just one important benefit of glass splashbacks in kitchens. Another greater benefit is their ability to transform the look and feel of your kitchen. Rather than keeping the glass splashbacks transparent, you can have beautiful colours or images applied to them instead.

These can be images of anything that you want. You could have pictures of food, outer space, forestry, waterfalls, animals, or whatever else you want. Turn your kitchen into an artistic masterpiece that is unlike any other kitchen. You’ll have a completely creative choice over the colours, shapes, and designs of the splashbacks.

Let’s go over the top 4 ways that glass splashbacks can transform your kitchen.

1) More Colour Choices

You can add any colour or pattern to your glass splashbacks that you could not add to your kitchen walls. You can even add photos and images. Unless you’re a master painter, it would be difficult to add images to your kitchen walls that stay protected like this.

2) Light Reflection

The light coming from your windows or lights will make the glass splashbacks shine on your kitchen walls. Vibrant and delightful aesthetics will be seen everywhere in the kitchen when you look around.

3) Clear Walls Forever

Regular kitchen walls have a lot of marks  and stains from the oil and splashing of your cooking. When tiles are used the grout tends to also stain and collect dirt. If you add glass splashbacks, they’ll keep your kitchen walls looking sparkly and shiny forever. As long as you periodically clean the glass with a glass cleaner and a few swipes with a soft cloth, your walls will always look new.

4) Affordable Transformation

A kitchen glass splashback installation is a lot cheaper than you think. It is also a long-term investment that will pay off because it’ll permanently transform your kitchen into a design feature as well as a premium cooking environment. You won’t even need to do much maintenance either.

How balustrades can enhance your home and garden

By News

Balustrades are railings that are traditionally made up of a series of pillars (balusters) which support a handrail on the perimeter of a staircase, balcony, terrace, or any upper floor area on the outside of a home. They can also be used in gardens and around swimming pools.

There are different types of balustrades to choose from, such as the classic wood balustrades and the modern glass balustrades. Each one has its own unique benefits. It all depends on the type of appearance you’re seeking for your home and garden.

Frameless glass Balustrades

Homeowners love to choose frameless glass balustrades for their interior and outdoor garden areas due to the ability of glass to add a sophisticated and elegant touch to any property. They are also weather-resistant, easy to maintain and serve as a practical safety barrier. The transparent nature of glass balustrades allows for uninterrupted views as well as creating a feeling of space and a more expansive atmosphere throughout the home and garden.

Wood Balustrades

Wood balustrades have more of a traditional appeal to them. You’ll see them commonly used on staircases, deckings and ledges. They are great to lean on as you look over the rail and watch the scenery around you. The pillars and columns of wood balustrades are usually crafted in a way which gives them a classic aesthetic design and appeal. High-quality solid wood is commonly used for the balustrades as well. They can take an ordinary looking home and make it look more elegant and fashionable.

Stainless Steel Balustrades

Stainless steel balustrades are a modern choice that has strong durability and aesthetics and often incorporates glass as infill panels. It is also very easy to clean and maintain these balustrades and works well as a safety barrier. So, if you have a lot of people using your property, then stainless steel balustrades are a good option for you.

Aluminium Balustrades

Aluminium balustrades offer a cost effective modern choice to glass or stainless steel balustrades,  they offer more durability than stainless steel due to the lack of rusting. Often incorporating glass panels it is also lightweight and easy to install the aluminium balustrades. For a simple modern balustrade aluminium is a great choice.
