Lympstone Manor Hotel

A stunning 21-bed contemporary country house hotel
Completed Spring 2017

Lympstone Manor Hotel, as a project, was the dream and passion of Michael Caines MBE, one of Britain’s most popular and well-known chefs. Born in Exeter, Michael’s vision was to create one of the best country houses in Britain, in his home county of Devon. Formerly known as Courtlands House, the building was a dilapidated Grade II listed Georgian manor house lying forlornly tucked away in a stunning location on the southern edge of Lympstone village, just waiting to be discovered and for someone to breath new life into the heart of it.

Nathan Sorensen of Clearly Glass Custom Glass Installations was invited by Dart Bathrooms to join the project by Dart Bathrooms in August 2016. Nathan was delighted to be involved in such a prestigious, inspired project. The brief for Nathan and his team was to install an assortment of bespoke glass shower options, screens and enclosures into 18 of the 21 beautiful bird-themed guest rooms.

A key challenge for Nathan was to ensure that any fixtures and fittings he might use for the glass panels such as handles, hinges and support frames, must match the beautiful antique gold hardware that had been selected by Michael for his luxurious bathrooms. As you will see from the stunning pictures of the finished shower enclosures, the required effect was achieved to a very high standard indeed. To help create such a minimal, elegant look to the shower enclosures, UV bonding was used. A sophisticated solution for connecting glass to glass; a unique feature that Clearly Glass offer as an option to their clients. The significant benefits of this method are the ability to connect glass panels seamlessly; reducing the need for connecting brackets and support bars.

To summarise on his experience of working on the project Nathan said, as with all evolving projects, especially to the scale of Lympstone Manor Hotel, there are always going to be challenges that have to be met and dealt with. There was a real sense of camaraderie amongst the many different tradesmen; all vying to complete their own part of the grand plan to the very highest of standards that were expected. Michael was visible and approachable throughout; he was very much involved as a project manager, part of every single detail and daily decision making. As a local family business we are overjoyed to have been part of such an inspired project. We believe we successfully fulfilled our brief and are very proud of the results we achieved with the shower enclosures.

February 2018 – Almost one year on from completion: it is apparent that Michael’s decision to use local tradesmen wherever possible was a conscious one. He is passionate about sourcing local produce and continues to support local business in every aspect of the day-to-day running of the Hotel. Michael’s dream of restoring this beautiful site was three years of hard work and planning. It is evident that the dream and the vision is now very much a reality. There really is a new heart beating at the Lympstone Manor Hotel.

“Clearly Glass did a fantastic job. In particular they were able to adapt to a heavy schedule of installation, especially towards the end, of what was a pressurised programme without ever compromising on quality. Any problems we have had, the response from Clearly Glass has been fantastic. I love their can-do attitude and the professional nature which they apply to themselves. It has been a pleasure to have Clearly Glass as part of this project.” Testimonial from Michael Caines
